Cool

You really ought to have an extra fuel pump relay in your console just for situations like this.
There are two silver relays in the right kick panel. Those power the fuel pump and the ecu. You can swap them, but if the main is bad, nothing works, hence the need for one or two spare relays.

The inertia switch is a simple push to reset gizmo, pretty straight forward. Listen for the pump to see if it runs. Check the fuel rail to see if it is pressurized.

Have you checked for spark??

What year is this thing? Almost sounds like a crank sensor.

Does the '97 Disco have one? Ahh, maybe in the USA - you got the GEMS engine over there.

The crankshaft position sensor is on the LHS of the block, down near the bell housing. It routes up the back of the engine and connects via a plug on the back of the LH cylinder head (on the P38A GEMS engine so I guess it would be the same on a D1 GEMS).

See http://autorepair.about.com/library/faqs/bl182f.htm

It's the pink thing in the illustration.
